This listing is for a vintage "The Buescher" True Tone curved Bb soprano saxophone. The serial number 111, xxx indicates a c. That also makes it a series II version of the original Buescher model. This sax is a low pitch horn, the desired tuning for contemporary use.

This sax is in very good physical condition. The body is straight, and the neck has not been bent down. Incidentally, it is a non-detachable neck, which was the norm for Buescher sopranos. There are two spots I pointed out in the pictures where there are minor dents.

One is on the side of the bell, where there is some shallow dinging with accompanying scratching. That will be easy enough to smooth out from the inside, but obviously the scratching will remain. The other spot is on the bow, right next to the bow guard.

The guard itself seems unaffected, so that one should come out fairly easily as well. Other than that, it is in great shape.

I don't see any previous dent or solder repairs. The silver plate finish is mostly intact, albeit heavily tarnished.

It should clean up nicely though. The keys are all moving freely, and the rollers are all turning. Please note that this horn does not have resonators on the pads. I'm not sure if it originally had snap ons or not.

Early series 2 horns did not, but I'm not sure exactly when they were introduced, or if they were introduced to all sizes at the same time, or phased in. See the product in action.

As far as playability, this horn is in decent playing condition, as you can hear in the demo video above. I won't say it is in tip top condition though.

It requires more finger pressure than is ideal, in my opinion. This is partly due to less than perfect adjustment of timing corks, as well as spring tension that is set rather heavy. Additionally, the pads are old, and likely not sealing perfectly. That being said, it plays well enough that I took it on a gig the other day, and had a hoot playing it on a handful of tunes! Bottom line, I think most people that are interested in a horn of this caliber will want to invest in a quality overhaul in relatively short order, but you will be able to play it straight out of the box to get a sense of its full potential. There is no mouthpiece, nor any other accessories included with this sax. Also, there is no case. It will be packed very well, double boxed, with lots of proper packing material to pad it. I think this horn will really make its next owner very happy. These old Bueschers have such a sweet tone! It is perfect for anyone who plays early trad jazz, as well as other styles of course. The curved variety is relatively rare, so this will be a real eye catcher on stage! This is due to lack of available transportation ie. If this potential wait presents a problem for you, please refrain from purchasing at this time. I sincerely apologize for this, unfortunately unavoidable, inconvenience.
