Here is a Buescher Model 83 LP "Buescherphone" BBb Sousaphone of early 1920s vintage in excellent original condition. I inherited this horn from a long-time Baltimore bandsman who passed away several years ago and apart from the usual small dents and scratches, needing new valve corks and felt rings, and being a bit dusty and tarnished considerably, it's been well-kept for decades (see condition box for more details). The Sousaphone has three standard-action piston valves, a 24-inch diametre bell, and four tuning slides. The instrument weighs about 25 pounds and has no case. Last year, I dis-assembled everything and gave it a good clean inside and out (see bath-time pics) and apart from some practice time, it's been played only once since then.I like to play left-handed as much as right-handed due to arthritis and this horn's valve and lead-pipe placement don't make that easy, but 99.9 percent of bass-horn players won't find that a problem! Check out all the pictures of the horn, both in action and being cared for. Since 2011, I have played "Old Silversides" only in four local parades and for a single jazz band gig back in February of 2017.
After nearly four decades as a professional bandsman, I'm out of the band business now and would like to see this venerable bass horn go to a good home - it's got lots of two-beat and four-beat bass time left!
