All keys move freely and the spring action is lively but not stiff. Keys and body are slightly tarnished, as shown, but I think a good rub-down with a silver cloth would bring up the shine nicely.
These old Conn sopranos tend to have a warm, dark, complex sound, due in part to the silver and gold plating. But don't be misled, they can kick up a storm too think Sidney Bechet....
They are a pleasure to play. A bit lighter than contemporary sopranos, they feel elegant, and the thumb ring (as opposed to a thumb hook) adds a sense of stability in the hands. This horn comes in a newer Yamaha case with double handles, as shown in the photo.
