2001 GETZEN "ETERNA" 700S SILVER PLATED MEDIUM LARGE BORE. 460 SEMI-PROFESSIONAL Bb TRUMPET IN PRISTINE CONDITION. I have been playing horns for 63 years... Collecting and restoring vintage trumpets and cornets, producing custom finishes, and building custom horns for 52.Over the decades I amassed a vast trumpet/ cornet collection. During the past few years I have thinned out the herd and continue to do so. All my horns are gig ready... They have been completely disassembled, cleaned, valves are hand lapped and precision adjusted & aligned with new corks & felts when necessary, all slide tubes are hand lapped and polished, and then the horn is re-assembled and play tested.
PLEASE LOOK AT THE OTHER HORNS I HAVE LISTED. For your consideration, here is an 19 year old Eterna 700S that is in need of an owner. It is straight without dents, repairs, red rot nor plating loss, and has seen very little (if any) play time, thus the valves are like new with factory spec compression.Prior to the 1963 factory fire, Carl "Doc" Severinsen (Johnny Carson's bandleader on the "Tonight Show") became affiliated with Getzen, and as chief of research and development, designed the 900 Eterna and 590 Capri series of trumpets and cornets. Both series were introduced in the fall of 1964 and garnered immediate kudos. In the late 80's the Eterna 700 was developed to replace the soon to be discontinued Eterna 900 Severinsen Model while still maintaining most of its attributes... See letter from Brett Getzen below, so Getzen could promote their new top professional 1200 Eterna II and Renaissance 20 models. At that time, the 700 was cataloged as an entry level professional instrument.
This Eterna 700S is a fairly lightweight 2 lb. Trumpet that will accommodate virtually any music style and acoustic venue. The trumpet has a clear and resonant tone that is easily controlled... Its sound is big, bold, rather round, centered and focused.
It is a free and open blowing horn with a rich, slightly warm tone that produces a sophisticated brighter edge when pushed, and loves to be piloted in the stratosphere. This horn has excellent intonation...
The low register is not flat, and is very resonant. The 5th harmonic is great, and so is the upper register intonation. Responsive and flexible, the Eterna 700S makes a great jazz horn, but will perform well playing commercial, legit, and even classical styles. Here is a 2008 letter from Brett Getzen discussing the differences between the 590 Capri, Eterna 700S, Eterna II 700S, and 700SP. A few things to clear up.First off, make sure you are talking about the right 700 trumpet. There is a 700S and a 700SP "Special". With the 700S being the much better of the two. Second, there are a lot of differences between a 700S and a 590 Capri: Inside Slides: 700S = Gold Brass ; 590=Nickel Silver Mouthpipe: 700S=Gold Brass ; 590=Nickel Silver The bells and mouthpipes are also of different tapers. There are other, more minor, differences like bracing, trim, the 590 coming standard with a 1st slide trigger, and a 700S only being offered in bright silver plate. Third, the 700S does not have a seamless bell. Fourth, there is no difference between the 700S Eterna and the 700S Eterna II. That was merely a name change for marketing reasons. Finally, while the 700S isn't the same as the original 900/900 Eterna Classic, it is close. Prior to reintroducing the original 900 design as the Eterna Classic in 2002, the 700S was the closest thing in our line to the old design. One last thing, the 700 Series of instruments are only offered to select dealers with some pretty stringent restrictions. Mechanically, this trumpet is in superb condition with valves that are bright and shiny, without staining nor pitting, and have factory spec compression.
All slides function with buttery smoothness. Cosmetically, the trumpet exhibits no dents, dings, or even pings. Other than some micro ticks, scratches, and polishing swirls, this trumpet is in "like new", flawless condition both outside and in.If you can find one! The aforementioned blemishes are extremely insignificant, but I tend to be overly critical and as accurate as possible when describing my horns, so that no one receives any "surprises". Features - One piece 4.75 yellow brass bell; gold brass inside slide tubes and lead pipe; reversed 1st valve slide w/ fixed thumb saddle; 3rd valve slide w/ adjustable ring and Delrin stop rod. Accessories - Original Getzen wood shelled, Cordura covered padded case in mint condition, and a brand new Vincent Bach 5C mouthpiece. International Buyers - Please Note. I do my very best to be as accurate as humanly possible in my descriptions. Just a musician and collector.
