Over the decades I amassed a vast trumpet/ cornet collection. During the past few years I have thinned out the herd and continue to do so. All my horns are gig ready...
Cleaned, valves adjusted & aligned, and with new corks & felts when necessary. PLEASE LOOK AT THE OTHER HORNS I HAVE LISTED. For your consideration, here is a collector grade mint example of a 46 year old, early issue Super Star Ultra Sonic trumpet that is in need of a new owner. This trumpet is straight without dents, dings nor repairs of any nature whatsoever. It has seen VERY little play time, thus the valves are bright and shiny showing no signs of pitting nor staining, and have factory spec compression.
The V-102 was introduced in 1972, produced through 1979, and was priced the same as the Olds Recording model. The most significant feature of the trumpet is its straight-through-air-flow design (much like the configuration of a flugelhorn) whereby the air column passes straight through the valve block into the bell without the interference of offset valve ports.
This design allows all three valves to be identical and thus interchangeable into any casing. Another unique feature of the horn is that the lower tuning slide tube crosses over and enters the left side of the valve block, thus moving the 3rd valve slide to the right side of the block in order to facilitate the air flow design. This design provides virtually no resistance...
If you are looking for an open, free blowing trumpet with no resistance, the Super Star is a fabulous choice. Contrary to misinformation on the internet, the "Ultra Sonic" engraving on the mouthpiece receiver does not reference the lead pipe, but rather Olds' newly designed bells that are featured on other models as well. The offset 3rd slide throw ring forces the player to hold the trumpet with a split finger grip (my preference)... This V-102 is a medium weight 2 lb. Trumpet that will accommodate virtually any music style and acoustic venue. The trumpet has a clear and resonant tone that is easily controlled... Its sound is BIG, BOLD, centered and focused. It is a VERY free and open blowing horn with a rich, slightly warm tone, and loves to be piloted in the stratosphere where it develops a sophisticated brighter edge with complex overtones. This horn has great intonation... The low register is not flat, and is very resonant.
The 5th harmonic is great, and so is the upper register intonation. Responsive and flexible, the V-102 Super Star Ultra Sonic makes a great all-around horn. Mechanically, this trumpet is in new condition with lightning fast valves that are bright and shiny, without staining nor pitting, and have factory spec compression. All slides operate with silky smoothness. Cosmetically, the trumpet is in pristine collector grade mint condition both outside and in.
If you look very close, you will find a tiny ping/ nick on the underside of the bell stem just behind the forward main brace. Otherwise, the rest of the horn is flawless. I tend to be overly critical and as accurate as possible when describing my horns, so that no one receives any "surprises".
